The New Olive Oil-Infused Coffee at Starbucks is Causing Customers to Complain about Stomach Problems

In sharing their experiences with the coffee chain's new olive oil-infused drinks, Starbucks customers have taken to social media to share their thoughts and experiences, and it seems that for some, the outcome is not so positive.

An expert on the subreddit r/starbucks recently posted a post titled "Olive oil drinks...," which appears to have been written by someone who claims to be a current Starbucks barista. In the post, the writer discusses an experience their colleagues found to be reassuring after trying the new lineup of Oleato drinks.

It is worth mentioning that Partanna cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil is infused in several of these new coffee drinks, which were introduced Feb. 21 in limited markets around the country.

It seems like many people will suffer the same fate that some of our team experienced because they tried them, wrote Redditor u/MoodyStarGirl on Reddit, “I wonder how many will suffer the same fate as what happened to our team.” The team tried the recipe yesterday and a few of us ended up needing to use the bathroom, if you know what I mean.. I'm really scared to try it since I already suffer from stomach and intestinal problems.”

There was an omission in the store's website offering customers access to their personal information, until the manager of the store informed them that he did not want customers to see it, claiming that the omission is "pretty f'ed up" and would not permit it to be shared.

There was also no immediate response from Starbucks to a request for comment that was sent to them.

Several other people have chimed in, with many sharing their own impressions and experiences with the drinks in the comments section of the Reddit post, with some sharing their plans for the future and suggestions about how they will drink them, which includes lattes, shaken espressos, golden foam cold brews, cortados, and a martini among others.

According to one Redditor, "Caffeine stimulates your bowels and oil relaxes your muscles, so it's perfect timing that Starbucks came up with such a great idea."

Another person wrote to thank you for letting me know about the head up about stomach / bowel problems.

In my opinion, I've tried them once and I've experienced a huge hollowness in my stomach after drinking them, and not just because they taste good but because they make me feel sick to my stomach." said another person. "I didn't have any appetite at all after that, and it was my only meal of the day."

As a matter of fact, the cold brew is good until you taste the foam. The foam is green, according to another Redditor who calls themselves a barista. “The worst of all was the latte for me. I didn’t like it. I got hit immediately with olive oil when I started drinking it, and I did not want to drink it.”

However, another user pointed out that "green olive oil does not mean that it is bad or bad for your health... Green does not mean it is bad or gross or anything that would cause you harm.".

Despite the fact that some people have provided positive reviews of the Oleato drinks, the majority of them are negative, such as the tweet by a Twitter user who wrote, “Starbucks, this new Oleato drink is so damn delicious! I love it!” And another Redditor who added, “I tried all three and loved them all. They were delicious.” Other people have had a much more stomach-churning experience with the drinks.

I've heard that Starbucks' oleato has laxative properties," tweeted a person on Twitter.

There were a few tweets from other twitter users who told me that their oily drink was making their stomachs spew.

One Twitter user, sharing an image of their Venti Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso, wrote, “So far I've been experiencing stomach pains and burning on my throat.” I cannot be certain if it is due to the olive oil in this drink.

Could there be a reason why this effect is occurring?

As a result of medicine men selling castor oil salve in the late 1800s, we have known that oil has a proven effect on relieving constipation, so we have been aware of its proven ability to move things along, so to speak. It has been suggested that a little bit of this ingredient could act as a laxative in your morning coffee. Could this be true?

To today.com, Frances Largeman-Roth, RDN, tells us that constipation can be treated with castor oil. Any oil can move stool through your digestive tract, particularly if it's been awhile since your constipation began. If you drink a venti or grande, olive oil can certainly do the same thing."

A combination of oil and coffee, which are stimulants for the digestive system, may be the one-two punch you need to take to ensure that you stay in the bathroom without leaving the house, according to Largeman-Roth, who claims that the combination is likely to deliver the laxative effect you desire. It is important to note that the effects of Oleato are more pronounced if you drink it on an empty stomach, she says.

The olive oil-slicked drinks are not for everyone, so if you want to try them, make sure you pair them with a meal of some sort, and make sure you're not too far from a restroom you'd feel comfortable spending some time in.
