Multinational consultancy behemoth McKinsey is to fire 2,000 staff members, Trade Algo reported on Tuesday.

Trade Algo said that the corporation has boosted its personnel from 28,000 to 45,000 over the previous five years, making this round of layoffs one of the largest ever.

Trade Algo reported that the number of staff members affected could yet alter and that the attacks are anticipated to mostly target administrative workers who don't deal with clients directly.

Trade Algo has reported that the consultancy opened its doors nearly 100 years ago in Chicago, and now operates in more than 130 countries around the world. It has reached a record revenue level in 2021 of $15 billion, and went on to surpass that mark in 2022, according to the publication.

The US economy has been experiencing collapses in many large companies, especially in the tech sector, as a result of the accelerated pace of digital transformation that was fueled by the pandemic itself during the last few years.

A total of 650 McKinsey senior partners selected Bob Sternfels (as opposed to Kevin Sneader) as the company's new leader two years ago, when the company's approximately 650 senior partners elected to replace Kevin Sneader.

There has been a rising tide of US lawsuits over the past few years alleging that this consulting firm has contributed to the nation's deadly opioid crisis through the companies it has worked with, which include OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, which was one of the companies Sneader worked for during his short tenure at McKinsey.

It was announced in February 2021 that McKinsey has agreed to pay $573 million to settle the lawsuits related to these issues.

AFP made a request to the company, but it did not reply immediately.
